My topic for my paper

By carlag

For my paper I want to focus on Digital Communities that offer computer services to people. Digital Communities help to bridge the gap in the Digital Divide. The following is a very rough draft of my outline. I must admit I haven’t started to actually write my paper as of yet. I am hoping to get to it this week when my daughter goes to visit her father. I need to give it my undivided attention real soon.

However, I hope that this is enough for the exercise we will be doing in class on Wednesday. I do have a sources that I will be using, but I don’t have an actual bib., because I haven’t written out.

    Hi Carla,

Hang in there-it’s always a time crunch at the end but there is nothing like it for focus! I’ll be interested to see some of your online sources and solutions to bridging the gap. Best of luck,

    Kate

Without much to go on I’ll say one thing: GOOD LUCK! Seriously, though, I think this is a great start, if only because the number of sections and subsections you have will make getting the full 15 pages an easier task.

This is a good start. Here are a few ideas I had reading your outline:

    - You will need to do a literature review to set up the paper. It should be a section distinct from the Introduction and it should identify the major schools of thought important for your paper. perhaps Section III on the Digital Divide should be section IIa and Section IIb would be a summary of the service-learning theory and literature. You might also want to review the literature on online communities in Section IIc. Then you would transition into digital communities in Section III.

    - I like the idea behind Section 4 and I hope it will contain something about the non-service-learning ways to bridge the gap, such as training librarians, better education for kids and adult learners, community technology centers, and other things you can find.

    - In section 5, you might want to to create subsections, such as 5a Challenges getting in the field, 5b Connecting with the church group, 5c anything about the members of the group who use these communities, and 5d, everything you learned about the digital divide from your SL sessions.

    Keep going!

Carla, since Doc already made great comments, I don’t see any need of mine here. Through your blog, I know you’ve had a hard time to find your service learning place. So as Tim mentioned above, good luck with everything! You will get through this semester!

I understand, Carla. I cannot put together a detailed outline without writing the paper. It looks like a good start.
Question – is Digital Communities the name of your service learning organization?

    Good luck.
